The Mao Era in Objects

The Mao Era in Objects project introduces twenty-four different objects related to the Mao Era.

This website is run by King's Digital Lab (KDL). We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts;
  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen;
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard;
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software;
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver).

We have also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

Technical information about this website's accessibility

King’s Digital Lab is committed to making its websites accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018. If you find any problems not listed on this page or think we are not meeting accessibility requirements, please contact kdl-info@kcl.ac.uk.

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non compliance with the accessibility regulations

The SiteImprove Accessibility Checker plugin throws an error that the Grid and list form elements are not grouped on the home page, which breaches the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 A standard. However, these elements should not be grouped as they represent tabular content rather than form elements.

In addition, the Accessibility Checker indicates that the link text is used for multiple different destinations on a page. For example, the error is caused by filtering tags on the home page - they, in fact, lead to the same destination, but the URL path depends on whether the filter was triggered through a popup with a brief object description or through the sidebar with a list of filters. These different URL paths allow tracing user interaction and activating some sections on page reload accordingly.

Finally, the Accessibility Checker plugin throws an error that the “Bold" tag used to format text, expecting a semantic <strong> tag instead. The <b> tag is embedded through a Wagtail richtext editor and cannot be controlled, unless the Wagtail rich text editor is customised.
